Seeking a skilled landscaper/gardener to support a high-end private residence in Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working on a large estate, be fluent in both Spanish and English, and be seeking a long-term opportunity. We're looking for someone who works well within a team environment and has an interest in occasionally assisting with horses.

Position Summary:

The Groundskeeper is responsible for the appearance of the estate grounds, grounds maintenance and landscaping of the property. This includes the stables, all shrubbery, gardens, yards, walkways and pathways of the estate. This also includes the operation and maintenance of all maintenance/utility equipment, fertility requirements for shrubs, trees, grass the water needs of the landscaping and irrigation systems. 

    Duties and Responsibilities of  Groundskeeper: 

  • Maintains superior appearance of estate grounds

  • Mows lawns and edges weekly

  • Prunes shrubs and trees as needed 

  • Applies herbicides and pesticides as needed 

  • Removes dead plant material 

  • Services and programs the irrigation system including maintaining sprinkler heads and water system

  • Maintains paved and gravel roads and parking lots

  • Maintains and operates all machinery and equipment used in profession

  • Follows all procedures and safety practices

  • Maintain, build and repair fences, light systems and water systems

  • Maintain, build and repair terraces and other structures

  • Maintains care and appearance of horse stables

  • Maintains highest degree of groundskeeper practices 

  • Communicates repairs observed and needed on property with Estate Manager

  • Performs regular inspections on property for order and safety 


Job requirements

 Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of large properties, formal gardens and topiaries

  • Knowledge of vegetable gardens, organics, and herbaceous settings

  • Knowledge of woodlands, ponds, swimming pools, and themed gardens

  • Knowledge of care for all equestrian duties needed

  • Ability to operate and machinery and heavy vehicles

  • Skillful experience in horticulture
